We are delighted to welcome you to Kippy Cottage - our sweet and unique beachside house nestled alongside the sandy dunes and super surf of beautiful Porthtowan Bay on the North Cornwall coast.

Porthtowan is a special place, It is a globally recognised surf spot but small in size so never gets overly crowded such as nearby Newquay and Perranporth,  The vibe here is beachy, relaxed and laid back and the welcoming community takes huge pride in keeping the beach and village clean, unspoilt and environmentally friendly.

Porthtowan has something to offer all year round - from Spring and Autumn breaks hiking the South West Coast path (which is located just metres from the house) and cosying up by the log burner, to fun packed Summer holidays with the beach and ocean on your doorstep, to huge-wave Winter surf breaks. There are many local activities and visitor attractions suiting all ages and the stunning and dramatic coastline is peppered with tin mines and ancient sites of historic interest. The powdery pale sand, crystal clear rock pools abundant with life and turquoise azure waters are one of the reasons why Cornwall is considered to be one of the most beautiful counties in the UK.

Kippy Cottage is special to our family and has been newly and lovingly renovated by us to provide a fun, cheerful, cosy and welcoming beachside retreat. Every effort has been made to ensure you enjoy a comfortable, hassle-free and truly memorable stay.

With thanks,

Welcome!

"Kippy Cottage was so amazing, I loved the cottage for me and my two daughters. So much comfort under one roof, the beach was minutes from our front door and the surf beach was so much fun on our bodyboards. The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed including wifi, films to watch, a big kitchen and a garden for laying in the sunshine all day. Thank you so much and we will be back soon 🙏🏻"

From Kate:

A gorgeous cottage in a fantastic location. We visited in August with our children (13 and 9), the cottage had all of the ‘home from home’ amenities that we needed, it was very comfortable and beautifully decorated. It is situated a stones throw from the beach and whilst there we saw amazing sunsets from the cottage/garden.  Within a very short walk there are 2 pubs, surf schools, a village shop, chip shop and ice cream parlour.  The website was really useful, providing tips of things to see and do. The hosts were very knowledgeable about the area and were quick to respond to any queries. We will definitely be back again!

We have just returned from a totally relaxing, long weekend at Kippy Cottage in Porthtowan, Cornwall.  The delightful two bedroomed house is blessed with a sea view from the French doors and from the main bedroom. There is a sweet little garden with a picnic table in the most perfect position to watch the sun setting over the sea.  The cottage is beautifully decorated in cheerful colours and well appointed for self-catering. The beds are very comfortable, conducive to a good night’s sleep. The heated towel rail was so good for drying our towels and the walk-in shower very easy to use. The log burner made for very cosy evenings; we were able to purchase a sack of logs from the local shop, after the concessionary ones had been used up.  During our stay, we had a delicious meal at The Unicorn, and sat at a window overlooking the beach. A perfect wind-down to a busy day. We had taken the winding coastal road to St. Ives, passing beautiful coves and beaches.  Porthtowan itself is so perfect for family holidays, as well as for those wishing to surf. The scenic costal path being ideal for walkers and so close to the cottage with access metres away. Kippy Cottage is the perfect base for visiting both north and south Cornwall. We will definitely return to Kippy Cottage sometime in the future.

From ken & gerri:

We’ve been holidaying to Cornwall for quite a few years with our two boys and dog(s), and in Kippy Cottage we have finally found the perfect home-from-home getaway. The very thoughtful owners have included everything we could possibly need to make our stay as perfect as possible. There’s no shortage of, plates, cutlery, cooking utensils, dog bowls to make life easy for you. Lots of information in the welcome pack too to help you settle in and get going on enjoying the Cornish coast! Although the weather wasn’t the best for us (April 2024), the log burner was just the best way to keep warm and cosy in the evenings. This place really is something special.

The (dog-friendly) beach is literally 100 metres from Kippy Cottage, and you can either sit and watch the waves roll in at high tide or walk along the sand to Chapel Port beach (try the Hedgehog ice cream there) when the tide is out. With a café on the Porthtowan beach front serving wonderful coffees/teas/ice cream, and super helpful surf/wetsuit hire shops, lovely food at the Unicorn pub, a local village shop that has everything you need, this place means you can just turn up and enjoy your break. We also booked a supermarket shop delivery for when we arrived, which is worth doing.

There’s so much to explore and do nearby that the bad weather didn’t really matter to us. Lots of coastal path walks and amazing views, seal spotting along the coast, take a dip in the Mermaid tidal pool at Porthtowan, St Agnes just up the road with a lovely bakery.  If you’re looking for a place in Cornwall to re-charge, relax and get away, Kippy Cottage is THE place to go.

From Mike & Family:

We have just spent an amazing week in Cornwall, staying at the lovely Kippy Cottage right on the front and literally in the heart on Porthtowan. Upon arrival, we could not believe how idyllic the location was, all the amenities on your doorstep but most importantly for us, the beach and ocean so close and so accessible. We spent many hours relaxing on the beach and also playing in the sea, learning to surf, walking the dogs on the beach and also on the southwest coastal path (which is right on your doorstep). Afternoons and evenings were frequently spent soaking up the rays in the garden and watching the sun set over the ocean in the evenings.

Aside from its idyllic location, we also found Kippy Cottage itself simply perfect. I adored the interior decor, the colourful well thought out palette and fun rustic beach vibes. It was clean, tidy, modern, & very well stocked with everything you could possibly need during your stay. I loved the amazing view of the sea from the patio doors and upstairs bedroom, it brought a smile to my day from the moment I woke up. The Guest Information pack provided is so incredibly informative, not only with everything you would need to know about the accommodation itself but also the owners have gone above and beyond to provide lots and lots of useful information with regards to other activities and amenities in the area. We only scratched the surface (hence need to go back!) but below are a few of the things that filled our days and we thoroughly enjoyed (all can be found in the information Pack)..

Sundowners in the Blue Bar Porthtowan Relaxing in Kippy Cottage Garden - great Ocean View and perfect for soaking up the sun, Beach Yoga with Kitty, Surfing lessons via Eskinzo Surf School, Southwest Coastal path - We walked to Chapel Porth with dogs- amazing views! We saw Seals in Godrevy (National Trust) Hayle Beach for Dog walking + Cove cafe overlooking Hayle Beach (dog friendly apart from July + August), Gwithian Beach also dog friendly (apart from July August), Coast To Coast Bike Ride from Portreath - Devoran (starting at Elm Farm) 2 minute drive from Kippy Cottage.

We have stayed in a number of dog friendly places in Cornwall over the years, but I can honestly say that Kippy Cottage was up there with the best, we have made some amazing memories and we will definitely be returning for more. Having spoken to the owners before going, I know they consider it a special place for them and their family...and now having been myself, I can 100% see why as we also had a pretty perfect stay in their lovely beach retreat and I would not hesitate to recommend it. Thank you:)
